LAKE ELMO, Minn. – University of Houston Women’s Golf junior Emilia Väistö fired an even-par 72 for the second straight day and rose into a tie for 33rd with a score of 222 to lead the Cougars during the Final Round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at Royal Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon.
 
As a team, Houston posted a score of 302 in the Final Round and finished the three-day event at 905 on the 6,408-yard, par-72 course.
 
Starting off No. 10, Väistö drained her first birdie of the day on the par-4 14th hole and overcame two bogeys on the first seven holes of her first nine to sink a birdie on her final hole of the tournament.
 
Senior Daniela Campillo Martinez tied for 36th at 224 while fellow senior Jackie Gonzalez Howard tied for 45th at 228. Both student-athletes were making their Cougar debuts with Campillo Martinez transferring from ULM and Gonzalez Howard joining from Wingate.
 
Senior Ellen Yates tied for 55th at 236 while sophomore Sadie Adams tied for 57th at 238.
 
Wake Forest captured the team championship with a score of 24-under 840 to finish 10 shots ahead of USC. Oregon (862), Auburn (863), South Carolina (864), Virginia (867), UCLA (867), North Carolina (890) and Missouri (901) completed the Top 10.
 
UCLA’s Michelle Xing earned medalist honors at 9-under 207 after posting a 65 in the Final Round. Wake Forest teammates Chloe Kovelesky (208) and Havanna Torstensson (209) finished second and third, respectively, while USC’s Sarah Hammett finished fourth at 212.
 
UP NEXT
Following the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, the Cougars return to action when they compete at the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla., on Sept. 19-21.
 

From there, the Cougars compete at The Fin at Freestone Lake & Golf Club in Fairfield, Texas, on Oct. 19-21 before closing their fall season at The Clash at Boulder Creek at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev., on Oct. 25-27.
