A culprit who’s believed to follow customers from an electronics shop at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga before attacking and robbing them is being hunted by police.

The latest incident, which occurred on Sept. 3 shortly after 5 p.m., was the most violent of at least three similar muggings dating back to early May, Peel Regional Police said on Friday.

A customer who had earlier bought an electronics product inside the large shopping mall was walking to their car in the parking garage when they were confronted by a male and robbed of their purchase.

“During the incident, the victim sustained significant injuries and was transported to hospital,” police said in a news release.

Officers with the Peel police 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau said two similar incidents occurred at Square One between May 9 and June 27.

“In both instances, the suspect approached victims at their vehicles in the parking garage and forcibly took electronic products they had recently purchased,” police said, adding one of those victims sustained minor injuries.

Investigators believe the same culprit is following customers who have purchased products from an electronics store and then approaching and robbing them in the shopping centre’s parking garage.

As they hunt for the person responsible, police are reaching out to the public for help in identifying the culprit.

The wanted male is described as Black, standing about 6-foot, with a thin build, weighing around 215 pounds. He has short black hair and dark brown eyes, and is known to wear medical masks and gloves, police noted.

Investigators are reminding members of the public to remain alert when leaving shopping centres and to be aware of their surroundings, particularly when walking to their vehicles.
