A 52-year-old Toronto man has been arrested and charged in a hit and run that seriously injured a woman in the city’s west end, police say.
Toronto police said in a news release that the man surrendered to police on Friday following the collision shortly after 8:30 p.m. on August 26 in the area of the Lansdowne Avenue and Brandon Avenue.
Police said the woman, 34, was crossing Lansdowne Avenue, at the signalized pedestrian crossover at Brandon Avenue, when a five-door white hatchback vehicle southbound on Lansdowne Avenue struck her.
The car was travelling at high speed at the time of the collision, police said. The woman suffered serious injuries. Police said the car did not remain at the scene but was located two days later.
The man has been charged with: failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm, obstructing justice, careless driving causing bodily harm or death, and driving a motor vehicle with no licence.
He is due to appear in court on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
