Police crime data indicates there were 280 vehicles stolen in Mississauga and Brampton over the last 30 days.

According to Peel Regional Police’s crime mapping tool, a combined 281 vehicle thefts occurred in Peel Region from Aug. 12 and Sept. 12, with 162 taking place in Mississauga, 118 in Brampton, and one in Caledon.

Unlike previous reports, Peel Regional Police did not provide an updated breakdown of cases that had been solved, remained under investigation or were deemed unsolved.

The crime map indicates that the vehicle thefts were mostly spread out between the two cities, with a noticeable cluster happening at Mississauga’s Pearson Toronto Airport.

Vehicle thefts remain a common occurrence in the GTA — in recent news, four teens are collectively facing over 200 charges following an investigation into multiple stolen vehicles and commercial break-and-enters across Durham and the GTA.

Between June and September 2026, the group was responsible for 36 incidents, including eight commercial break-and-enters and 15 vehicle theft-related offences involving stolen vehicles, attempted vehicle thefts, thefts from vehicles, and licence plate thefts.

Police have provided the following tips to help residents protect their vehicles from theft:

if possible, park your vehicle in a locked garage, as the majority of the vehicles have been stolen from driveways.
use a steering wheel lock. It will also act as a visible deterrent.
install a lock on the data port. This simple device can be purchased online and blocks access to the computer port where thieves gain access to reprogram the vehicle’s keys.
consider purchasing a quality video surveillance system. Ensure cameras are properly placed and functioning for day and night use. Familiarize yourself with the system so it can be reviewed and accessed immediately.
