Team USA moved one step closer to a fifth-consecutive World Cup gold medal on Saturday, fending off a dogged Spanish attack to down the Spaniards, 76-66, in the FIBA World Cup semifinals.
Kara Lawson’s side toiled for much of the opening 30 minutes of its contest, struggling to contend with Spain’s talent-laden roster. It was only in the final quarter where the Americans really flaunted their quality, blighting the Spanish attack en route to surrendering just eight points in the fourth.
France beckons for Team USA in a rematch of the 2024 Olympic final. While the U.S. hasn’t quite enjoyed the dominance it flaunted in some of its prior tourneys, all that glitters lay before it — should it author up a strong enough display.
