The Boston Bruins are back on the ice today.

The Bruins are in Buffalo today for their first game of the Prospects Showcase. The Bruins have 23 prospects (16 with the organization, seven invites) in western New York, and they’ll be out of there by dinnertime tomorrow.

Day two of Fan Fest (Worcester) was cancelled due to the weather forecast.

Elsewhere around the league, Chris Kreider signed in Montreal. The 35-year-old has connections to the Bruins’ biggest rival, and Pierre LeBrun reported the Bruins were one team interested. The Vegas Golden Knights signed their captain to a two-year extension, and Connor Hellebuyck still wants out of Winnipeg.

Happy Sunday, catch up on Bruins and league news in today’s Daily Bean:

Boston Bruins

PROSPECTS SHOWCASE: The prospects showcase is here. It’s gameday, technically. The Bruins’ rookie camp roster is in beautiful Buffalo, New York for their first of two games. Check out the schedule, rosters for both sides, and information on how to watch.

FAN FEST: The Bruins opened Fan Fest yesterday in Warwick, but today’s stop in Worcester has been cancelled due to the weather forecast.

Boston Bruins (videos via 𝕏): It was Bruins day at Fenway yesterday. Morgan Geekie and Tanner Jeannot showed off, both launching BP over the Green Monster.

NHL News & National Hockey Now

Montreal Hockey Now: Chris Kreider is going to Montreal. Yesterday, the Canadiens announced a one-year deal with a $2.15M cap hit. Kreider can also make an additional $3M in bonuses, which will impact Montreal’s cap hit next season if achieved. Marc Dumont has the instant analysis from the signing.

There’s a decent amount of familiarity with the signing; Kreider and head coach Martin St. Louis were teammates, while Jeff Gorton worked with the Rangers throughout Kreider’s 13 years there.

TSN: The Vegas Golden Knights are keeping Mark Stone around. Yesterday, the Golden Knights announced a two-year deal with a $9M cap hit. Stone had 73 points (28-45–73) in 60 games last year and 12 more (7-5–12) in the VGK’s run to the Stanley Cup Final.

Sportsnet: Connor Hellebuyck wants out of Winnipeg. Mark Scheifele and the star goaltender faced the same decision in October 2023, but now Hellebuyck wants out. His statement said it was important to address his trade request with training camp approaching.

Sportsnet: Connor Hellebuyck is still a Winnipeg Jet, and Detroit still does not have a GM. Training camp gets started this upcoming week, and Michael Amato has four of the biggest burning questions heading into camp.

Colorado Hockey Now: The Toronto Maple Leafs are inviting Nick Blankenburg to training camp on a PTO. The Avalanche traded for the 28-year-old defenseman ahead of the trade deadline, but lost him to UFA this summer. Blankenburg has 58 points (18-40–58) in 176 NHL games.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Here’s a great read from our friends at PHN. Sports bring people together, especially in trying times. Vince Comunale takes a look at how hockey (and some other sports) can unite people, especially if there is a common thread by which all people can unite.
