An early morning fire destroyed a three-storey home on Marketway Lane in Timberlea, N.S., on Sunday, next door to a residence heavily damaged in a suspected arson attack just over a week ago.
No one was inside the building at the time and no injuries were reported. The structure is considered a total loss and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but RCMP believe the fire is connected to a previous arson and attempted arson.
In a news release issued Sunday, RCMP said a dark-coloured SUV was seen leaving the property after this morning’s fire was set.
Thushar Thulasi moved to the neighbourhood this spring. He said two fires in just over a week have him worried.
“I have family. I don’t know how to protect them,” he said. “What if they miss the house and, you know, try to attack my house next time?”
Janet Steele, the councillor for District 12, who was in the area on Sunday surveying the damage, said residents are very concerned that a second fire has occurred.
“They’re worried about their own properties and they’re worried about the safety of their families,” Steele said.

The home next door was gutted by fire on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Police were called to the same street two days later at 4:10 a.m. after a man was seen leaving a residence with a burning cloth.
He fled the area in a car, leaving behind a jug containing accelerant.
RCMP said they believe the three incidents are connected to other suspicious activity in the area, including possible shots fired and a possible August break-in.
Police say they have stepped up patrols in the neighbourhood.
