Dean Di Laurentis (Stephen Kalyn) is hard to ignore on “Off Campus.” He’s a typical frat boy hockey jock with rich parents and NHL dreams, sure. But no matter how hard he tries to be a playboy, he can’t help but be mesmerized by Allie (Mika Abdalla) — and who can blame him? Honestly, he’s hard to look away from, too, which is at least part of the reason why Dean and Allie’s messy situationship is going to be the focus of Season 2. The fact that he could play a young Ken in the “Barbie” universe probably isn’t the only reason Kalyn’s face lives rent-free in our minds, though.
The Canadian actor is a favorite of the casting directors hiring for Prime Video’s buzziest shows. He had a guest-starring role in five episodes of “The Boys” spin-off “Gen V.” His character Greg is in love with Emma/Little Cricket (Lizzie Broadway) and uses his super strength and ability to fly to help her and the rest of Godolkin University take down Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater) in the series finale. He also appeared on one episode of Prime Video’s “Cruel Intentions,” which was cancelled after one season. Before his Prime Video takeover, Kalyn played Young Lou in the CBC limited series “Essex County,” which earned him a Canadian Screen Award nomination in the best drama ensemble category.

Stephen Kalyn started studying acting in college when he realized his hockey career wasn’t going to take him to the NHL. His acting credits start in 2018, and while his success in the industry has been steadily building, the notoriety he’s experienced since “Off Campus” breaking Amazon viewership records was quite sudden. Midway through production of “Off Campus” Season 2 in June 2026, Kalyn told Who What Wear that while he was nervous to step into the spotlight as the leading man, he settled in quickly. “I’ve been working a little harder, but I love that, and it’s been really fun,” he said.
As for what fans can expect in Season 2 after Dean and Allie’s huge cliffhanger, he’s pretty tight-lipped. That said, Kalyn dropped clues that Dean would at least have the chance to transform from a player who wants to try out monogamy into a heartthrob worthy of the internet’s adoration. He said that in Season 2, “You don’t just see the playboy anymore. You start to strip the walls down a bit and see [Dean’s] vulnerability.” Kalyn’s black-and-white ad for Verizon called Simplicity is Sexy probably helped him practice seducing the world through the TV screen. The campaign took inspiration from Calvin Klein’s Deal with It campaign.
