A familiar name around here admitted he regrets not being able to sign with the Montreal Canadiens organization this summer.

Instead, the Quebec-born goaltender chose to continue his career in Italy, simply because he wasn’t able to reach an agreement with the Rocket.

At 34, he signed with HC Bolzano, where he’ll be the starting goaltender.

He’ll also bring his family along for this new adventure overseas.

Canadiens’ goaltending logjam left little room for Louis Domingue

The logjam in the crease is very real in the Montreal Canadiens organization right now.

Kaapo Kahkonen already had a head start for the No. 2 goaltending job in Laval after seeing plenty of action last season. Then there’s Samuel Montembeault, who remains with the Canadiens and is expected to serve as Jakub Dobes‘ backup this season, but who could also end up with the Laval Rocket.Jacob Fowler could also see playing time in Laval, leaving very little room for a newcomer like Domingue.

The veteran also discussed the rule change involving emergency goaltenders, which will now require teams to carry a legitimate third goalie.

He believes the change will help the league’s credibility, even if plenty of people will miss the colorful stories involving unlikely emergency goaltenders.

We agree with him on that point.
