The WNBA is currently in search of its next commissioner in light of Cathy Engelbert’s retirement announcement at the end of the 2026 season.
While the league’s search is underway, Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has been actively sharing her views on what the next WNBA Commissioner should be like.
At one point, Cunningham claimed she would be a good commissioner for the W. Now, the Fever sharpshooter has once again made headlines for bringing NBA Commissioner Adam Silver into the conversation.

Cunningham recently claimed that she had a conversation with Silver about how he runs the NBA and how the W should approach the search for its next commissioner.
Sure, Silver is known to actively engage with the biggest names in the NBA, but talking to Cunningham seems a bit far-fetched.
As a result, the only way to confirm if the conversation happened or not would be if the NBA releases a statement on the matter, which the league has declined, per Associated Press.
“Silver has a long history of speaking with players about various topics in the NBA or the WNBA, though the NBA declined to specifically address what Silver and Cunningham discussed,” AP reported.
This doesn’t prove that Cunningham has lied about her conversation with Silver, but it’ll certainly force fans to take it with a pinch of salt.
