The Wellington Dukes scored three unanswered second period goals to erase a 2-0 deficit and defeat the Pickering Panthers 4-2, Sunday in Ontario Junior Hockey League action in Pickering.

The win snapped a two-game losing skid for Wellington, who had won its first two games of the new season on opening weekend, and now sport a 3-1-0-1 record.

Pickering (0-2-0-0) opened the scoring Sunday with 2:20 left in the first period when Cayden O’Hearn connected from Keaton Legacy and Evan Elliott. They made it 2-0 with just 10 seconds left in the period when Lewis Hergaarden scored from Jeremiah D’Ornellas and Landen Stevens.

The Dukes got things rolling in the second period when Landon Marleau converted a power play chance from Zachary Mascard and Jayden Levesque just 1:16 into the frame. They tied it just 1:13 later when Mike Albert and Cooper Woron combined to set up Oliver Coyle.

Ryland Harvey scored the eventual game winner from Levesque and Marleau at 6:48 of the middle frame.

Sammy Longo added an insurance marker on the power play 2:08 into the final stanza, with Blake Berthiaume and Presley Kelly drawing the assists.

Dryden Riley stopped 33 of 35 Pickering shots to record the win for the Dukes, while Jacob Gibbons turned aside 21 of 25 Wellington shots in taking the loss.

Hurricanes 3, Dukes 2 OT

Friday at Wellington’s Lehigh Arena, Joshua Giordano scored just before the final buzzer sounded in the first overtime period to lift the Newmarket Hurricanes (3-0-0-0) to a 3-2 victory over the Dukes.

Newmarket opened the scoring just 1:41 into the game when Logan Rivard set up Georgi Garimov.

However, the Dukes tied it with a power play goal at 17:25 of the first when Justin Doak scored from Mascard and Marleau.

Wellington took a 2-1 lead at 15:39 of the second period when Berthiaume scored on the power play from Mascard and Levesque.

Newmarket tied it at 4:45 of the third period when Presley Allain scored from Angelo Protopapas.

Alex Armellin stopped 26 f 28 shots to pick up the win for Newmarket, while Riley turned aside 45 of 48 shots in taking the loss for Wellington.

Chargers 6, Dukes 4

Last Wednesday at the Port Credit Memorial Arena, the Dukes gave up two second period goals in 13 seconds and never recovered as the Mississauga Chargers (1-2-0-0) went on to score twice more in the third to beat them 6-4.

Mascard opened the scoring for Wellington 52 seconds into the game when he was set up by Marleau and Levesque.

The Chargers tied it on the power play at 5:24 when Sachary Pereira scored from Robert Knight and Owen Barfoot.

Longo put the Dukes back in front when he scored with the man advantage from Maclean Chisholm at 9:15. Levesque put We;lington ahead 3-1 at 11:21 from Mascard and Marleau.

Frank Lecce closed the gap to 3-2 from Alexander Loschiavo and Pereira with 2:02 to play in the first period.

Marleau restored the Dukes two-goal lead 3:07 into the second period when he was set up by Levesque and Mascard.

Mississauga made it 4-3 at 13:34 of the second when Knight scored from Ethan Holt and Barfoot. Just 13 secnds later the game was tied after Luca Morano scored from Pereira and Lecce.

Milo Boyu Tian scored the game winner from Valdyslav Drahun and Loschiavo 2:15 into the third, and Loschiavo added an insurance marker from Drahun and Boyu Tian at 13:11.

James Meredith earned the win in net for the Chargers, stopping 22 of 23 shots he faced in relief Lukas Boudreau, who allowed three goals on 10 shots before being pulled at 11:21 of the first period.

The Dukes were Milton Tuesday night to face the Menace (3-0-0-0), but results weren’t available at press time. They host the North York Rangers (0-3-0-0) Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Muskies 8, Golden Hawks 7 OT

The Trenton Golden Hawks (0-1-0-1) got their season off to a shakey start Friday in Lindsay as they blew leads of 4-1, 5-4 and 6-5 in falling 8-7 in overtime to the Muskies.

Lindsay (2-2-0-0) opened the scoring 4:48 into the game when Declan Ready scored on the power play from Jack Foley and Mason Quinn.

However, the Golden Hawks stormed back with four straight goals to carry a seemingly commanding lead into the first intermission.

Mason Musclow scored from Kaiden Harmon and Kale Mace at 6:28, followed by Liam Fisher from Logan Bennett and Evan Norris at 7:37, Norris from Jax Martin and Ryan Chamberlain at 13:04, and Ethan Brassard from Beckett Ewart and Mace at 17:15.

The Muskies stormed back in the middle frame when Ready scored on the power play from Jack Broadhagen and Kaden Koutroulides at 8:12, and then Jackson Bathgate scored with the man advantage from Shane Brown at 17:17. Foley tied from Koutroulides and Ty Rupnow with 1:38 left in the second.

However, Mace scored a power play goal from Brassard and Nathan McHattie with 25 seconds left in the period to giev Trenton a 5-4 lead entering the final stanza.

Quinn tied it for the Muskies from Tavin MacDonad 2:33 into the third, but Harmon put Trenton ahead 6-5 with a power play goal from Mace and Brassard just 41 seconds later.

Foley tied it from Chase MacKay with a power play goal at 10:12, and Koutroulides gave Lindsay its first lead of the game when he scored from Foley and MacDonald with 2:14 remaining in regulation time.

Ewart tied it from Brassard with just 1:17 to play to force overtime.

However, Brown scored the overtime winner just 1:22 into the extra frame from Ready.

Milo Slayer stopped 37 of 44 shots to earn the win for Lindsay, while Hayden Jeffery turned aside 37 of 45 shots in taking the loss.

Patriots 7, Golden Hawks 4

Saturday in Toronto, the Golden Hawks allowed goals in the dying seconds of all three periods in dropping a 7-4 decision to the Patriots (2-0-0-0).

Fisher opened the scoring for Trenton from Norris 4:09 into the game.

But Max Cervjakovs tied it from Dylan Nobili at 9:12, and Owen McGuckin put Toronto into the lead from Olivier Romain and Colton Woods with just one second left in the first period.

Nobili made it 3-1 from Taddeo Tavernese and Jacob Johnston 1:17 into the middle frame.

Ewart made it 3-2 from Harmon and Mace just 16 seconds later, but Tate Collins put Toronto up 4-2 from Lucas Balanyk and Carson Hall at 3:41.

The Golden Hawks tied it when Charlie Gage scored on the power olay from Musclow and Fisher at 10:43, and Ryan Foley scored from Bennett at 16:07.

]Toronto then scored the game winner on the power play with just three seconds left in the middle frame when Collins and McGuckin combined to set up Ivan Bazunov.

In the third period, Balanyk scored from Collins and Hall at 3:44, and McGuckin scored an empty net marker from Collins and Richard Wang with five seconds remaining.

Trey Caracciolo stopped 33 of 37 shots for the win, while Nolan Nicoll turned aside 37 of 43 shots in taking the loss.

The Golden Hawks return to action Friday when they host the Stouffville Spirit (0-1-0-0) at 7:30 p.ml at the Community Gardens. Sunday they travel to North York to face the Rangers at 2:30 p.m.
