The WNBA season will resume following a three-week FIBA World Cup hiatus on Tuesday night. On Wednesday the Indiana Fever will continue their playoff push as they take on the Toronto Tempo. That game just got a little easier as the Tempo announced today that All-Star Marina Mabrey will miss the rest of the season with a right adductor injury.
Mabrey is the team’s leading scorer and second in assists this season. She’s averaging a career-high 20.8 points per game, which is the fifth best scoring average in the WNBA. Mabrey is averaging 3.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds this season. Her first season in Toronto has been a revelation.
The Tempo took Mabrey with the No. 6 pick in the expansion draft and put her straight to work. She has the third-highest usage rate in the WNBA this season behind A’ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark.

Marina Mabrey’s breakout season
She is shooting 38.5% on 8.5 three-point attempts (No. 2 in the league) a game. Her 3.3 makes a game is tied with Rhyne Howard for the most in the league, right ahead of Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark. She also made 88.1% of her free throws this season on 4.5 attempts a night.
Earlier this season she tied the WNBA single-game scoring record with 53 points. The record was originally set by Liz Cambridge in 2018 and equaled by Wilson in 2023. Mabrey made 17-of-28 field goal attempts and connected on 9-of-18 three-pointers in 32 minutes against a helpless Los Angeles Sparks squad.
The good news about shutting Mabrey down is that the Tempo weren’t in a position to make a playoff push anyway. The team is 11-29 in its inaugural season. They play their final home games of the season against the Fever and New York Liberty this season so they won’t need their own star power to sell tickets.
