The Surrey-based police watchdog is looking to speak to witnesses who have not spoken to investigators in connection with a woman seeking medical treatment after being arrested outside a police station in 2025.

The Independent Investigations Office stated in a news release Wednesday (Sept. 16) that on Nov. 2, 2025, a woman visited the Surrey Police Service district office in Whalley to speak with police and file a report.

“While speaking with police, there was an interaction between officers and the woman, and she was arrested outside the station, near the intersection of King George Boulevard and 107A Avenue,” the release noted.

Police later released the woman without charges and drove her back home. She later went to the hospital for medical treatment, notified the IIO of the incident in December, and the IIO began investigating.

The investigation is ongoing, and the IIO is looking to see if there is any connection between the woman’s injuries and the police’s action or inaction.

“To date, IIO investigators have canvassed for witnesses, obtained medical and other records, and collected evidence, including video footage,” the release reads.

The IIO of BC investigates all police-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.

Investigators ask witnesses who have not spoken with them and have information or video footage about this matter to contact the IIO toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
