The Brampton artist showcase this Saturday will feature residents’ textile and craft work, along with a talk by 2026 Artist in Residence Shiemara Hogarth. The free gathering runs September 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at South Fletcher’s Branch Library.
Brampton Library and Brampton Arts Organization are presenting the final showcase following a summer of workshops, drop-in conversations and individual mentorship. In a September 15 news release sent to Bramptonist, the library invited everyone to join the celebration.

The event will begin with Hogarth speaking about her experience working with residents during the residency. Visitors will also see artworks created by community members who took part in the summer’s activities.
Those opportunities included visiting during office hours, reserving one-on-one mentorship sessions and joining free, accessible workshops. Participants explored hand weaving, coiling and surface pattern design, according to the library’s release.
Saturday’s gathering brings those different forms of participation together. It focuses on the artist and the people who developed their own work through the residency, giving visitors a chance to see the results of a summer spent learning and making.
Meet Shiemara Hogarth
In its announcement introducing Hogarth, Brampton Arts Organization describes her as a Jamaica-born, Brampton-based textile and craft artist. Her work explores belonging, memory, and storytelling through media including weaving, embroidery, digital printing, and sculptural forms.
The residency initiative began in 2023 and provides an $8,000 stipend and workspace at South Fletcher’s Branch Library. Its public activities invite people of different experience levels to connect with a practising artist.
This summer’s workshops introduced participants to making a woven sample, forming a small coiled basket or flat rug, and creating a repeating pattern tile. These were learning opportunities during the residency, not workshops promised for Saturday’s showcase.

The Brampton artist showcase runs for two hours, with the artist’s talk at the beginning, according to the library’s invitation. Residents who want to hear Hogarth discuss the residency should plan around the 11 a.m. start.
The confirmed programme is a showcase of community-created work and an artist’s talk. The invitation does not announce live demonstrations or guided art-making sessions on the day.
