The Amazon pay increase announced Wednesday will reach eligible operations employees at 10 Peel Region sites, with the company’s Canadian average hourly base wage rising to $26.27 on September 27. For Brampton workers, the key distinction is that the figure is an average, rather than a promised rate for every job.
In a September 16 media announcement sent to Bramptonist, Amazon’s representative said the company is investing more than $78 million nationally in higher pay. The company describes the change as a four per cent increase over 2025.
Amazon pay increase includes Peel operations.
The regional announcement identifies 10 sites in Peel, but does not provide a site-by-site wage table or a count of Brampton employees receiving the adjustment. It also does not identify how many of those locations are within Brampton itself.
Those distinctions matter when reading the headline number. The $78-million investment covers Canada, not Peel alone, and the $26.27 figure reflects average hourly base pay. Neither figure establishes an individual employee’s earnings or the amount of money being invested specifically in this region.
Employees can compare the announcement with their own wage information when the change takes effect. Residents considering operations jobs should likewise check the rate attached to a particular opening rather than treating the national average as a starting-wage offer.
Grocery discount starts October 1
A separate benefit follows four days later. Beginning October 1, eligible full-time, part-time, seasonal, and corporate employees in Canada will receive 10 percent off eligible online grocery and daily essentials purchases through Amazon.ca, according to the company.
Amazon says there will be no cap on savings. The offer applies to eligible purchases; the announcement should not be read as a blanket discount on everything sold through the retailer.
The company also lists existing benefits for regular full-time operations employees, including medical, dental and vision coverage from their first day, an employer-matched registered retirement savings plan, the Employee Prime Benefit and Career Choice tuition support. The eligibility language matters: the benefit description for regular full-time staff does not establish identical coverage for every employment category.
Two dates for employees to watch
The Amazon pay increase takes effect September 27, while the new shopping benefit begins October 1. They are separate changes, even though the company announced them together.
