Teenager Cavan Sullivan’s rapid climb in soccer now includes a ticket to the US men’s national team. The 16-year-old, a standout player for the Philadelphia Union in the MLS, has been called up to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for four matches starting Sept. 26, reports the Athletic. Sullivan turns 17 on Sept. 28, and the callup will make him the youngest player summoned since Freddy Adu, who was a few months younger back in 2006, per ESPN.
Sullivan, a Philadelphia native, has been living up to his hype in the MLS, with six goals and eight assists since the league resumed play after the World Cup break. The teen previously made headlines by signing his MLS contract—and playing in his first game—at the age of 14. The national team under Pochettino is starting to prepare for the 2030 World Cup.
