George Stroumboulopoulos made a stop in Sault Ste. Marie this week
Global radio host and former Much Music personality George Stroumboulopoulos was in the Sault yesterday, to speak at an event and apparently to pay a visit to the Soo Greyhounds rink.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, PUC hosted the Energy Distributors Association Northwestern/Northeastern District Conference and annual general meeting at the Machine Shop, with Stroumboulopoulos as speaker.
Stroumboulopoulos, also known as Strombo, posted a photo on his social media of a visit to the GFL Memorial Gardens while wearing a red and white Soo Greyhounds jersey with a familiar ’99’ on the back.
“This is a special building! Home of the Hounds. Hello from the home of Tanya Kim. The Soo!” he said in the Facebook post.
When asked in the comments about Wayne Gretzky’s number 99 on the jersey, Stroumboulopoulos said: “I didn’t do it. They did it ha. They have the right. Not me.”
PUC did not respond to a call for comment about the appearance.
This is not the first time Strombo has been spotted in the Sault.
In 2013, a post on the now-closed Camera Craft Facebook page noted Stroumboulopoulos stopped in the downtown store while on a motorcycle trip.
