The wading pool at Celebration Square in Mississauga’s downtown core will close for the year one week from Sunday while splash pads across the city are expected to shut down around the same time or a bit later.

City of Mississauga spokesperson Irene McCutcheon told INsauga.com the wading pool, a popular City Centre attraction during the summer, will close for the season on Sept. 27 “to coincide with other construction that is occurring on site.”

The 34 splash pads at parks across Mississauga are expected to close for 2025 shortly thereafter.

“We’re aiming to close the spray pads around the same time. However, precise timing for closing splash pads is weather dependent. They may close later, depending on the long-range forecast,” McCutcheon said.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast is calling for temperatures between 17 and 21 C tomorrow through next Wednesday, with rain possible a couple of days next week. Beyond that, mostly sunny and around 19 C is the call for the seven days between Sept. 24 and Oct. 1.

The Celebration Square wading pool and the city’s splash pads are scheduled to reopen next May, when the weather allows.

This past spring, the wading pool and spray pads opened in mid-May.

Last year, the spray pads in Mississauga closed on Oct. 6, 2025 while the Celebration Square water attraction closed on Oct. 8, 2025.

The splash pads and Celebration Square amenities have become popular spring and summer cooling-off spots over the years for many Mississauga residents looking to escape the heat on hot days.

“Spray pads offer a unique mix of fun, safety and convenience that makes them a great summer activity, a refreshing escape from the heat and a fun way to cool off,” city officials said earlier. “They are free to use, making them an affordable and fun option for families. Unlike pools, spray pads have no standing water, making them a safe option for children of all ages, including those who don’t know how to swim.”

The city has also said amenities likes spray pads in parks offer important benefits to neighbourhoods and residents, noting such locations:

Serve as gathering spots where people can socialize.
Encourage physical activity.
Offer an accessible space for all.
Play a vital role in fostering a healthy urban environment.
