Diego Carneiro connects music and service
Born in Belém in Brazil’s Amazon region, Carneiro has worked as a cellist, conductor and teacher. His biography with Friends of Music in the Americas traces his studies through Brazil, the United States, Britain and Switzerland.
He established AmazonArt in 2009. The foundation, originally based in London and now in Ecuador, supports social change through music. Since 2016, that work has centred largely on the Youth Orchestra of Ecuador, which he founded and directs.
In 2024, he spent three months as a Rotary Peace Fellow at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. There he launched Orchestrating Peace through Music, connecting his artistic practice with his interest in relationships across communities.
For Brampton audiences, the visit brings that international experience into a local gathering built around community service. His appearance sits within a wider conference programme, alongside speakers, discussions and opportunities to meet people involved in Rotary projects.
