Kelsey Mitchell made WNBA history when the Indiana Fever beat the Toronto Tempo on Friday night.

The Fever secured a 103-85 victory, with Mitchell and Caitlin Clark among the standout performers.

Clark hit double figures for points and assists again, while Mitchell, after scoring 33 points against the Tempo, set a WNBA single-season scoring record by taking her total for 2026 up to 1,034 points.

Now, Mitchell has been quizzed on breaking that record in a post-game interview shared by Savanna Hamilton on X/Twitter.

A reporter asked: “Now you’re also making league history, too. So what does that mean to you to be one of those front faces now making that league history?”

Mitchell responded: “I don’t think, like I said, it’s still settling in. But I think about, I can’t like, I think about all the times that I wasn’t even supposed to be in these rooms.

“I look back on my career and see what the Fever at one point, 6 and 27, 6 and 28.

“And so, a lot of what I’ve been through, a lot of who I am. I’m one of them stories where it’s like I wasn’t the person people was asking to do stuff, be a part of stuff. I wasn’t on the records for anything, and so it took a lot of work to really be here.”

It remains to be seen if Mitchell’s point-scoring ability will be enough for her to clinch the MVP crown this year.

She is facing stiff competition from a number of players, including her Fever teammate Clark and multi-time winner A’ja Wilson.
