Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) has bravely disclosed his stage three cancer diagnosis to his family in Coronation Street.
The story kicked off at the same time that the Winter clan realised they may carry the familial BRCA gene, following the passing of their estranged aunt, Celeste Butterfield (Frances Barber).
Carrying a familial BRCA (Breast Cancer) gene mutation means inheriting a harmful change in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes from a parent, which significantly raises your lifetime risk of developing certain cancers.
Little did they realise, Kit had already been diagnosed.
He confided in Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), who was worried about his sudden reliance on alcohol, but didn’t want to burden his family with the news – especially since mum Bernie Winter-Alahan (Jane Hazlegrove) was so sure that they didn’t have the gene.

With his relationship with Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) in tatters, Kit has made a series of reckless moves. Last week, he slept with her daughter Bethany (Lucy Fallon).
In today’s episode, Bernie was anxiously awaiting news from the hospital. Husband Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) and Kit had accompanied her to the appointment, and while they waited, she told them that she was sure that the the test would come back negative.
Kit lost his temper and stormed out of the waiting room. He couldn’t bear to see such positivity during his darkest hour.
Bernie followed and confronted him about his pessimistic attitude. She could see that her son was struggling with his emotions, and urged him to explain what was really troubling him.

Eventually, feeling overwhelmed, Kit revealed that he knew Bernie carried the gene – because he’d already been tested, and he had it. She was stunned, and even more so when he disclosed the diagnosis.
Later, at home, Bernie broke down and was worried about losing another son.
Will the family band together in Kit’s hour of need, or will he continue to shut them off?
