Riders will need to board some Brampton Transit routes from temporary stops when the city shuts down a bus terminal for construction.
The city says it will be closing the Heart Lake Bus Terminal on Conestoga Drive starting in October to allow for upgrade projects, including accessibility enhancements, new boarding platforms with indicator surfaces, new lighting and updated tactile walking surfaces.
The temporary closure will see bus stops within the terminal relocated to nearby on-street locations.
The city says local residents and transit riders can expect noise, temporary eastbound lane reductions on Conestoga Drive and pedestrian detours around the terminal while the construction is underway.
“Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year,” the city says.
Noisy construction work will be limited to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, the city says.
Here are all the Brampton Transit routes that will move to temporary on-street bus stops, starting on Oct. 5:
Route 7/7A Kennedy Southbound – Temporary stop on Conestoga Drive, east of Somerset Drive.
Route 7 Kennedy Northbound – Temporary stop on Conestoga Drive, east of Somerset Drive.
Route 2 Main – Temporary stop on Conestoga Drive, east of Somerset Drive.
Route 28/28A Wanless – Temporary stop on Conestoga Drive, east of Somerset Drive.
School Special Routes 201, 202, 203, 204 and 218 – Temporary stop on Conestoga Drive, east of Somerset Drive.
The upcoming closure comes months after the reopening of the Brampton Transit Terminal’s North Platform, following weeks of construction-related disruptions.
