Prime Minister Mark Carney offered his condolences in Parliament on Thursday to the family of a Montreal woman who was killed earlier this week.
Leïla Ben Salem, 45, was an “esteemed” employee of the Canada Revenue Agency who was dedicated to serving Canadians, Carney said in the House of Commons.
“On behalf of the Government of Canada and, I believe, all the members of this House, I offer our profound condolences to the family, loved ones and colleagues of Ms. Ben Salem,” Carney said at the beginning of Question Period on Thursday.
Ben Salem was serving Canadians when she was attacked, Carney said. According to multiple reports, Ben Salem was participating in a virtual meeting with colleagues at the time of her homicide.
