Whistler’s first World Cup weekend is, after years of building hype and decades of desire, finally here. And it is kicking off in the wildest way possible. After a calm day of track walk, racers woke up to heavy rain and a track that has totally changed its personality. Wet, wild, and hard as heck.
Who better to preview the Whistler course than reigning, back-to-back elite men’s champion Jackson Goldstone? He won here on 1199 in August at the Canadian Open DH. He’s the world champ. And he lives just 40 minutes down the road. Hang on, it’s a wild ride.

And here’s Canyon’s Troy Brosnan and Henri Kiefer, just for good measure.
Looks hectic, right?
Well the rain kept going all day. The massive finish line sender? It started to get a little wild. Ruts on the run in. Big soft spots on the landing. One of those claimed Goldstone on his final timed training run on Friday.
