Southeast Helping Hands held its first-ever annual charity golf tournament this summer, bringing the community and the charity together in discussions about what matters.

Executive Director Ken Dyck was extremely excited about the turnout for this event, saying a second tournament is in the works.

“We’ve raised roughly around $7000, which is good for a very first time.  I’m happy with it, and everybody else seems to be happy with it. All the sponsors, all the golfers, were totally amazed with how we ran the first year.”

With plans for a second annual tournament underway, Dyck aims to make it bigger.

“Even Quarry Oaks says next year they don’t see a problem with us hitting 144 golfers. We had 94 this year.”

Dyck notes that the positive feedback was great to hear. It’s amazing. I mean, there are a lot of people who have said they were going to be coming next year, but right now these people, the sponsors, are amazing.”

Dyck thanks the community for the support they have shown throughout the tournament. “Community is amazing when we ask, they come.”

The tournament included some $10,000 holes, a car prize, and a MIDCAN quad. The event offered more than just prizes; it gave an opportunity for one-on-one connections between the organization and the community.

“If people have questions, we’re there to answer them. And like I always say, if people want to, they can stop by anytime and we’ll give them a tour of the place, and it’ll give them a lot better idea of what we do.”

Dyck heard comments on the course, amazed at how many people think of helping hands and provide community support.

“It’s great to hear these comments, that means we’re doing the right thing, and we’ll just keep on moving forward and trying to come up with better, bigger and better things to raise money.”
