Defending champ Magdeleine Vallières Mill of Sherbrooke, Que., is out of the road worlds. She crashed hard with 94 km to go and was held up several minutes.

She was thankfully able to get back on her bike but unfortunately, the gap was too big and she withdrew with 60 km to go.

The crash involved 15 other riders in the peloton that brought down several riders, including Femke De Vries, Daniela Campos, Julia Borgström, Carina Schrempf, Claudette Nyirarukundo, Flora Perkins, Kate Courtney, Grace Arlandson, Marta Jaskulska and Sigrid Ytterhus Haugset.

Adèle Normand gave it her all to get  Vallières Mill back on to the lead group which had shrunk considerably. But ultimately, they were over 10 minutes behind the reduced lead bunch.

Still, MVM showed what a true champion is made of, saluting the fans and supporters. Chapeau, Magdeleine.

Meanwhile, the bunch is getting smaller and smaller. Nadia Gontova has been dropped, with Sarah Van Dam the sole Canuck in the bunch. She is looking good, staying near the front with 50 km to go.
