Anglers on P.E.I. can now use a new interactive map to find up-to-date fishing locations and regulations.
Filters allow users to search for approved gear, specific fish species, contaminated zones and local restrictions.
Rosie MacFarlane, the province’s freshwater fish biologist, said the digital tool makes finding information easier.
“That [hard-copy] map was starting to get a little bit old,” she said. “Some of these places no longer even exist anymore. So we were trying to keep that map updated.”
MacFarlane said that as anglers head into the extended fall season, they can use the map to check which rivers remain open for fishing.
The online version is based on the original physical map, but it combines the landscape map with rules for each location.
MacFarlane said the tool is easy to use and includes a video tutorial. Information on the page will be updated as regulations change over time.
The interactive tool can be found online at PEI Fishing Map.
