An event focused on boosting support for programs and services benefitting people with developmental disabilities exceeded its fundraising goal.
The Walk and Roll fundraiser, held Sept. 26 at South Surrey Athletic Park, crossed the finish line with $105,000 in donations collected, organizers announced at day’s end.
“We surpassed our original $100,000 fundraising goal!” Iayisha Khan, communication and event specialist for UNITI, said by email.
“Nearly 300 people joined us today at South Surrey Athletic Park for Walk & Roll, and we could not be more grateful for a community that continues to show up for us.”
UNITI is a partnership of Semiahmoo House, The Semiahmoo Foundation and Peninsula Estates Housing Society. It “exists to ensure that all members of society are seen as equal and have the same rights, resources and responsibilities,” information at uniti4all.com states.
Funds raised will help “create opportunities (for people living with disabilities) to participate, contribute and belong,” said Khan.
Donations to the campaign will be accepted until Oct. 11. Visit canadahelps.org
