The Medicine Hat Tigers worked an even split in their first road weekend of the season.
The Tigers lost 3-1 Saturday in Red Deer to the Rebels before beating the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-2 on Sunday.
Saturday’s loss saw the Tigers trail Red Deer 1-0 after 20 minutes before the Rucks struck in their first game back from Pittsburgh Penguins training camp. While shorthanded, Markus fed Liam with a breakaway off a face-off win and the younger twin brother scored his first of the season.
Red Deer scored a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the third period en route to the win. Captain Beckett Hamilton had the game winner, his fourth goal of the season after tallying a hat trick in a Rebels’ 4-3 win Friday over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Carter Casey made 32 saves in the loss Saturday. Forward Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll was ejected from the game Saturday after being assessed a check to the head major and game misconduct in the second period. He was suspended for Sunday’s game.
Forward Yaroslav Bryzgalov, playing his second game back from the Vancouver Canucks’ training camp, tallied a pair of goals. The Tigers led Edmonton 2-1 after 20 minutes, Mace’o Phillips scoring his first WHL goal.
They led 3-2 through 40 minutes, Brayden Holberton scoring his first as a Tiger before Medicine Hat tallied a pair of power-play markers in the third period en route to the win. Tyson Moss and Bryzgalov had the goals. In his first start of the season, second in the WHL, Cash Christie made 24 saves for the win.
The Tigers ran a perfect penalty kill over the weekend, killing off eight disadvantages with Liam Ruck’s shorthanded goal. Their power play went two-for-seven.
The Tigers don’t play until Saturday when they host the Prince Albert Raiders at Co-op Place. Prince Albert played a pair of games this weekend against the Saskatoon Blades, losing 3-2 Friday and 5-2 on Saturday.
It will be the first meeting between the Tigers and Raiders since the 2026 East finals, won by Prince Albert in Game 6 at Co-op Place.
