Asian Games 2026 Live Updates: India enjoyed a productive morning at the 2026 Asian Games, adding medals across shooting and boxing while producing several strong performances in archery. The highlight was Neeru Dhanda’s gold medal-winning display in the women’s trap individual final, while India also secured a bronze through boxer Narender.
Neeru entered the women’s trap final as the top qualifier and lived up to that billing with a composed performance. She remained in contention throughout the early stages before establishing herself at the top in the closing rounds. After 30 shots, the Indian shooter had registered 28 hits, two clear of China’s Sun Yunong on 26. Neeru’s victory earned India its fifth gold medal of the Games and also set an Asian record.
The gold followed India’s silver medal in the women’s trap team event earlier in the day. Neeru had combined with Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer to finish behind China, with the Indian trio scoring 328 points.
India’s second shooter in the men’s trap final, Shapath Bharadwaj, had a much shorter medal campaign. Shapath qualified for the final after finishing joint-seventh and then winning a three-way shoot-off for one of the available spots. He struggled to find his rhythm once the final began, hitting only three of his first five targets. After 10 shots, he had seven hits and was eliminated in eighth place, alongside Kazakhstan’s Alisher Aisalbayev.
Boxing provided another major boost. Parveen advanced to the women’s 65kg final after defeating China’s Li Shu in the semifinal. After taking the opening round 3-2, Parveen dominated the second 5-0 before completing the victory and securing her place in the gold-medal bout against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-chin.
Ankush Panghal also booked his place in a boxing final after a dramatic comeback against Uzbekistan’s world champion Fazliddin in the men’s 80kg semifinal. Ankush lost the opening round 4-1 but responded by taking the second 3-2 and then dominating the final round 5-0 to win on the judges’ scorecards. He will face South Korea’s Kim Min-Seong in the final.
Narender’s semifinal against Kazakhstan’s reigning world champion Aibek Oralbay ended in defeat, but the Indian boxer still walked away with a bronze medal. After trailing 10-0 through two rounds, Narender mounted a late fightback in the third, landing several solid punches and forcing a standing count before Oralbay closed out the bout on a unanimous decision.
In archery, Kumkum Mohod progressed to the women’s recurve individual quarterfinals after defeating Bangladesh’s Saima Salahuddin 6-0. Kirti’s campaign ended in the Round of 16 following a 3-7 defeat to South Korea’s top seed Kang Chae-young.
