It took only 14 games for the Anaheim Ducks to hand one of their top prospects a major extension.
Defenceman Tristan Luneau has agreed to a six-year, $43.2-million extension worth $7.2 million in average annual value, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Thursday.
According to Friedman, the Ducks believe in the 22-year-old and hope he can become a top-four defenceman. It’s the largest contract in NHL history for a player with only 14 games of experience.
Luneau predominantly suited up in the American Hockey League last season with the San Diego Gulls, tallying 10 goals and 31 assists in 70 games. He played one game at the NHL level, scoring one goal in 11:37 of ice time in that lone showing against the Nashville Predators on April 16.
He had previously enjoyed stints in the NHL, playing seven games in the 2023-24 season and six in 2024-25. In all, he has two goals and two assists over his 14 total games.
Drafted by the Ducks 53rd overall in 2022, the Victoriaville, Que., native played his junior hockey in the QMJHL with the Gatineau Olympiques.
