A documentary on Haitian zombies, a Halloween Cereal Cartoon Party and ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ with a shadowcast are just a small taste of the October calendar at Sudbury’s arthouse cinema

BEWARE: Frights and world-class cinema lay ahead!! Our month is stocked with scares and stars alike, with equally robust theatrical and events slate.

October, theatrically is bookended by two of the year’s most anticipated titles.

One is Tony, the Anthony Bourdain biopic that opens on Oct. 2! Matt Johnson (Blackberry, Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie) directs an incredible cast, including Antonio Banderas, Leo Woodall, and Dominic Sessa.

And opening Oct. 30 is Primetime, the 3rd film this year from star Robert Pattinson’s world-conquering four-film 2026. Pattinson portrays TV’s Chris Hansen in auteur-documentarian Lance Oppenheim’s (Some Kind of Heaven, You Can See Everything) narrative feature debut.

Also opening at the Indie are two fantastic French features. Recently having opened at Cinéfest, and starring Louis Garrel (Scarlet, L’Innocent, Arco), the coming-of-age dramedy Juste une illusion begins its run on Oct. 8. For a unique look at zombies, try Black Zombie, the anticipated Canadian doc unearthing the deep roots of Zombie fiction and its connection with Haitian slavery.

Thanksgiving weekend, while you’re preparing an excellent meal, get some peace and quiet by sending your relatives our way! On Oct. 10, the first of two Halloween Cereal Cartoon Party (Oct. 10 and Oct. 24) is on the slate, featuring cartoons from the 1970s through the 1990s, plus an all-you-can-eat cereal bar. The night of Oct. 10, join us for the 1993 classic Addams Family Values.

Back by popular demand, we’ve got a six-show encore run of Teenage Sex & Death at Camp Miasma. What is October without Brad and Janet? Mooncrater is back for three shows with the world’s greatest shadowcast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

And finally cancel your plans because you’re not going to want to miss the special Oct. 31 screening of John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween.
