The heads of all five of the leading parties in this Quebec election campaign say they believe Quebec needs more power and say over its destiny.

Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon says the only way to be masters of our destiny is by becoming a sovereign country as soon as possible. He promises to hold a referendum on the issue, although not until 2029 or 2030, after Trump’s presidency ends.

Québec solidaire’s Ruba Ghazal says Quebecers will be convinced to vote for separation eventually, after they are properly consulted on a new and inclusive Quebec constitution that will include protections for Indigenous Peoples, anglophones and new immigrants.
