Aug. 26 was the site of the final round of the Summer Slam Series. This is an annual inter-club competition between the Orillia Tennis Club and Bracebridge Tennis Club. It was held at the West Orillia Sports Complex. Action was intense, but the home side eventually prevailed and swept all four courts for a resounding victory!

Orillia’s team of, Dominic Veiria and Nathan Hele won the men’s doubles match on court one, winning two straight sets, 6-3 and 6-4. This set the tone for the rest of the matches.

In the ladies doubles match, Heather Gosein and Judy Snider won a very close battle on court two in a third set tie-break. Orillia dropped the first set 5-7, but then stormed back winning the second set 6-4, then claimed the win in a very exciting tie-break, 10-8.

On court three. Joe Mancuso and Ken Brownlee teamed up in another men’s doubles match, winning the first set 6-3 and then cruised home with a 6-1 win in the secondset.

Court four featured a mixed doubles match. The team of Shannon Kearns and John Jackson survived a tough first set, winning 7-5. They too won their second set in convincing fashion 6-1.

The above victory was very important as it turned out being the deciding win and secured the series for your Orillia Tennis Club.

On June 10, Orillia travelled to Bracebridge and lost that competition, three matches to one. On June 24, Bracebridge visited Orillia and the four matches were split two each. On July 8, back up in Bracebridge not much separated the two teams as once again Orillia and the host team settled at a draw, each winning two matches. After the competition in Orillia on July 22 was rained out, once again Orillia travelled up to Bracebridge on Aug. 12 and secured a very important victory, winning three of the four matches.

Therefore going into the final competition everything was dead even between the two clubs. Each team had one win and a loss with the other two ending up in draws. Therefore Orillia’s sweep of all 4 courts on August 26th secured the series win for the 2026 season.

The club wishes to acknowledge the other players who participated in the inter-club matches this year.
