Deion Sanders breaks silence on NFL allegedly making an “example” out of Shedeur originally appeared on The Sporting News
Deion Sanders has never been one to sit silently when it comes to his children, and the recent chatter around Shedeur Sanders’ NFL Draft slide has once again brought him into the spotlight. While Coach Prime isn’t on the sideline for the Cleveland Browns, his voice remains strong when defending his son.
Earlier this month, Shedeur’s NFL career began with a promising preseason outing, as he completed 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. The performance was quickly added to the conversation that the NFL may have deliberately tanked his draft stock. Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson made waves by claiming that league insiders warned teams not to draft Shedeur, allegedly in an attempt to “make an example” out of him.

This prompted longtime broadcaster Dick Vitale to chime in shortly after, arguing Sanders got a “raw deal” and should never have slipped to the fifth round.
Deion Sanders responded by thanking Vitale directly, writing, “Love ya man and I’ve always appreciated your Truth! God bless Hero.” The reply was followed up by Sanders posting a cryptic tweet: “Lies and Flies are attracted to the same thing!” While subtle, Coach Prime’s words carried the same protective tone he’s long used to shield his family from critics.
Sanders’ awareness of the narratives surrounding Shedeur hasn’t gone away. Though he didn’t explicitly confirm that the NFL conspired against his son, his choice of words suggests a firm agreement with those who believe the younger Sanders faced an unfair treatment.
For now, Shedeur’s focus remains on carving out his role in Cleveland. He’ll be slotted behind veteran Joe Flacco, but the 144th overall pick continues to battle for a roster spot.

With ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting that the Browns are leaning toward keeping four quarterbacks, the path to development appears stable. Whether or not the league truly sought to make an example out of him, Shedeur Sanders’ opportunity to answer back will come through his performance on the field.
