It’s been a postseason of firsts for the Valkyries.
The first round of the 2026 WNBA playoffs saw No. 2-seeded Golden State secure its first-ever win and series victory in the postseason. Now, Gabby Williams, Veronica Burton and the Valkyries meet the defending champion No. 3 Las Vegas Aces in the semifinals with a chance to reach their first WNBA Finals.
It looked like Golden State was headed for a second first-round exit in as many seasons as a franchise. The No. 7 Dallas Wings, after extending the series against Golden State with a Game 2 overtime win, built up a 16-point second-half lead in a decisive Game 3 at Chase Center.
But Natalie Nakase‘s squad refused to see their season end, closing the game on a 40-20 run en route to a 77-73 win. Williams scored 17 of her team-high 19 points in the second half, and the two-time All-Star knocked down a mid-range jumper late that put Golden State ahead for good.
The Valkyries will be back at “Ballhalla” for the opening games of the semifinals as they welcome in four-time MVP A’ja Wilson and the Aces.
Las Vegas, seeking a fourth title in five years, also went the distance in its first-round series, outlasting Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and the No. 6 Indiana Fever in three games. The Aces’ star trio of Wilson, Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young combined for 77 points in a series-clinching 94-83 win over Indiana.
A’ja Wilson puts up 36 points and 10 rebounds as the Las Vegas Aces beat the Indiana Fever 94-83 in Game 3 to advance to the WNBA semifinals.
The Valkyries lost all three of their matchups against the Aces in the regular season, though the most recent meeting was back on June 21. And Golden State has lost just six games total since that last head-to-head matchup.
So, can the Valkyries put an end to the Aces’ repeat bid and extend their chase for a first championship? Here’s how to watch the semifinal showdown:
