For 14 local book lovers, Sept. 25 was an evening of glitter, crafts and fantasy as South Surrey’s Grandview Corners Indigo hosted a night dedicated to all things Romantasy.

The bookstore hosted its Romantasy Night, inviting readers to celebrate the popular blend of romance and fantasy through crafts, trivia and a little book bling.

The event was first announced on social media that this was an opportunity for local readers to get creative with their favourite books while connecting with others who share a love for the genre.

Guests could bedazzle a book, create their own bookmarks and put their Romantasy knowledge to the test during a themed trivia session.

According to Sonia Dhungana, the customer experience leader at Grandview Corners Indigo, the event had 14 eager attendees.

Dhungana shared that she hosted the evening alongside colleagues Tara Bevan and Tara Cayla.

Cayla, who was said to also enjoy crafts, was in charge of guiding guests through the book bedazzling and bookmark-making activities, while Bevan hosted the trivia session.

The trio even wore Romantasy-themed masks to keep with the evening’s theme.

Dhungana shared that upon arrival, guests were taken to the event area, where they could immediately get started on the evening activities.

She said some jumped right into bedazzling their books, while others started making bookmarks in preparation for others to arrive.

Once everyone was there, Dhungana said the group moved on to the Romantasy trivia game that the Indigo team prepared for the evening.

“Every guest really enjoyed the trivia and they were very engaged,” Dhungana shared after the event.

Dhungana said there were three prizes prepared for the trivia winners, as well as a prize for the best Romantasy-themed outfit.

Since dressing up was optional and Dhungana explained no guests arrived in costume, the team pivoted and instead awarded the prize to a fourth trivia winner.

Dhungana also shared that during the book bedazzling portion of the evening one book was not enough for one guest and therefore they chose to bedazzle two books instead.

“The event went really well,” said Dhungana.

She explained that the guests were all very appreciative and lovely through the evening, adding that it was a pleasure for the team to host the event.

Dhungana shared that the team would love to host future events in their store and even had several guests asking when the next event would be.
