SAN DIEGO — San Diego women’s tennis hosted the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic this past weekend, where Akira Roy led the Toreros with two three-set singles wins and two doubles wins alongside Ines Leon and Lila Bachour.
Roy teamed with Leon on Friday for a 6-4 win over Navy, then teamed up for an all-freshman doubles pairing with Bachour on Saturday for a 7-5 victory over Fresno State. Leon and Bachour paired up together on Sunday but fell 4-6 to LMU.
Roy won both of her singles matches in three sets, as she came back from a 3-6 first set on Friday to eventually beat Navy with 6-4 and 6-2 sets. Roy then beat Fresno State in a close tiebreaker match that went 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8) on Saturday.
Leon opened Friday with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Navy on the main court, and Bachour followed with her own 6-2, 6-1 win over Fresno State on Saturday.

San Diego women’s tennis will host another tournament in a couple of weekends as it will host the ITA Regional Championships at the Hogan Tennis Center on Oct. 15-19.
