A man in his 60s has survived after being hit by a train in Surrey Tuesday, police say.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says it received a call about the incident, which took place on the CN tracks near the Golden Ears Connector and 182 Street, shortly before 6 p.m.

When officers and members of BC Emergency Health Services arrived, they found the man near the tracks, police say. He was injured but was conscious, breathing, and talking.

“The male sustained a laceration to his scapula and advised he was walking on the tracks, did not hear or see the train and got ‘clipped’ by the train, despite trying to avoid the impact,” the SPS said.

“Based on the information at this time, the incident does not appear to be intentional.”

The man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

The SPS says CN Rail has taken over the investigation, and there are no reports of ongoing delays to trains in the area.
