This week, Surrey Schools is recognizing both Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW, Oct. 4 to 10) and World Mental Health Day (WMHD, Oct. 10) by highlighting numerous local, provincial and national resources and services for students, staff and parents to support mental health.
Mental Illness Awareness Week was established by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in 1990, while World Mental Health Day was founded by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1992. Both observances seek to increase mental health education while raising awareness and advocacy against social stigma, offering a meaningful opportunity to reflect on how to best foster mental health in our schools, our workplaces and our communities.
Below are provincial, district, and community resources for students, staff, and parents to support mental health.”
