NASCAR O’Reilly Series Race Preview
Corey Day took home a thrilling victory at Las Vegas after besting Carson Kvpail in a back-and-forth battle across the final 12 laps. That was enough to push Day to fifth in The Chase standings, while Kvapil’s strong day positioned him in second place and only 19 points behind Sheldon Creed for the lead. The other major storyline was the continued fall of Justin Allgaier, who was knocked out of the race in a big pile up on Lap 55. After earning only five points, he has slipped to fourth place and 30 points behind Creed. There’s still plenty of time for the picture to change, but only five races remain.

It’s been several years since Charlotte has hosted two traditional races on its oval for the O’Reilly Series, but that’s what we have in 2026. Ross Chastain took home the win, but the field won’t have any Cup Series drivers this time around. The traditional oval at Charlotte is known for delivering excellent racing due to the track having multiple racing lines. That’s created some unlikely results, with the last three winners starting 14th, fourth and 30th. All three were Cup drivers, which does change the meaning of those results, but a poor qualifying result doesn’t mean the same will happen Saturday afternoon.

With Allgaier slumping and no clear ace at the track, I’ll rely more on recent form than is typically the case at the top of my build. That leads to both Kvapil and Crews. Kvapil has risen to second in The Chase and has finished inside the top five in six of his last eight races. His history at the Charlotte oval isn’t strong, but I’m willing to overlook that. The same is true of Crews, who has finished inside the top three of three of his last four races.
Hill is best known for his work on superspeedways but remains undervalued on other tracks, and that’s the case at Charlotte. For those that want to build through Allgaier or Jesse Love, Hill is a decent way to balance out the cost without giving up much in terms of potential return. Sawalich, Smith and Sieg are all standout values of the weekend, and I’m more willing to rely on track history the lower in cost we go. Sawalich has moved through the field each of the last two weekends, and he has shown consistent qualifying speed at Charlotte. While the race results have been inconsistent, his price makes it worth taking on that risk.
Sammy Smith and Ryan Sieg have both finished inside the top 10 in two of the last four races, while Smith has also banked a top-five finish in that span. Each of the Tier 4 drivers are decent punt plays, but they carry a lot of risk as their price implies.
Best Bets for the Blue Cross NC 300
Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook as of 12:00 AM ET Saturday
Race Winner – Carson Kvapil (+700)
Top 3 Finish – Austin Hill (+350)
Head-to-Head Matchups
Brent Crews (-135) vs. Sheldon Creed (+100)
Austin Hill (-105) vs Sam Mayer (-125)
As mentioned, the field is relatively wide open which creates some opportunity in the market. Only two drivers have race-winning odds lower than +500, while Day (+600), Kvpail and Crews (+800) all offer decent value. Hill’s overall consistency at the track makes him worth considering as a top-three finish even if the upside to win the race isn’t apparent.
There are also a few intriguing head-to-head matchups. Creed has been in excellent form since The Chase began, but he hasn’t had much success at Charlotte. Crews has also been in good form and is my choice. Hill has a clear upper hand on Mayer from all perspectives on paper, making him the driver to back in that matchup.
