U10

The Cowichan U10 Atoms hosted the Nanaimo Boom Hawks at McAdam Park, falling short in a hard-fought 37–12 contest.

The match presented a steep learning curve for the young Cowichan squad as they made the sudden jump to a 9v9 layout for the first time.

“The extra players and expanded field created some early confusion on the gridiron, and despite the challenges, Cowichan showed tremendous heart, grit, and high-level individual effort across the board,” head coach Steve Hale said.

Harvey Tiedemann anchored the pass rush while secondary coverage was highlighted by Declan Keller.

On offence, Teagan Hale scored both of the team’s touchdowns.

The following weekend, the team met a physically dominant Greater Victoria Riptide, losing 34-0.

“I couldn’t be prouder of this group,” said Hale after the game. “The score doesn’t reflect how hard we fought or how much better we’ve gotten since week one. Our effort was continuous, and our attitude was exactly what football is all about.”

U12

It was a shutout for the U12 Cowichan Bulldogs on Sept. 26 as they beat Nanaimo Legion of Boom 20-0. The following weekend, the U12 squad went up against a tough Oceanside Lions team, falling 24-14.

“It was a close game going into the fourth quarter,” said head coach Charles Murray.

Carter Thorne ran for two touchdowns on the day, with great blocking by Clark Waddle, Eli Frenchy-Thorne, and Pax Przybyl.

Christian Murray had some nice completions to Carter Christian, added the coach.

“The defence was playing great, making big stops,” Murray said. “Tackles by Kohen Hack, Madden Ball, and Benjamin Karr all helped out.”

U14

An adjusted score of 36-6 was the result of the U14 Bulldogs’ game against the Nanaimo Seahawks on Sept. 26. The team has won all four of their games so far this season. They didn’t let up on Oct. 4, shutting out the Oceanside Lions 48-0.

U16

The U16 Cowichan Bulldogs beat the White Rock Titans 54-24 on Sept. 27.

Quarterback Gus Steeves led the way with 140 yards passing for three touchdowns and 20 yards on the ground, scoring a touchdown himself. Eli Atchison had a mammoth 280 yards rushing; his longest run was 73 yards. Harrison Plaxton had 97 yards receiving.

Marcus Jeet and Alex Erickson anchored the team’s defence.

This past weekend, the ‘Dogs were not able to come out on top, falling 58-38 to the Nanaimo Seahawks on Oct. 4.

“Injuries and conditioning at the end of the game did come into play,” said head coach Opie Williams. “We were already short-handed at the start of the game with two defensive linemen absent and a starting safety as well.

“We will need to work on our conditioning and temp speed to make sure that is up to the level to be a top-level team.”

U18

The U18 Bulldogs played LMF Stampeders in Surrey on Sept. 27, losing 10-0. The Bulldogs met the same team on Oct. 4 at McAdam Park, losing 24-14.
