After months of planning and a week of digging, and after a few incredible runs, weather forced organisers to cancel the men’s Red Bull Rampage mid-competition.

“With the safety of riders, fans, and staff as our top priority, the remainder of the Red Bull Rampage Men’s Competition has been cancelled due to weather,” Red Bull stated.

Conditions on the mountain quickly deteriorated, looking pretty wild, not just a little dangerous to ride in, very soon after the call to end the event.

Since not all the men were able to get a first run in, it appears there will be no results for 2026. Weather has forced organisers to cancel second runs in the past, and base scoring off of rider’s first runs. While that was less than ideal, this year’s situation, obviously, worse.

At least the women’s competition on Thursday was absolutely incredible.

Safety first

Rider safety absolutely comes first. As does the safety of fans and event staff. We’re happy to see Red Bull make the call to pause competition.

At the same time, it’s also hard to understand how such a major event still does not have a solid contingency plan for weather that would allow the event to continue, at a later date.  We’re sure the organisers have heard of skiing, and know snow events, like Freeride World Tour, have a longer window for competition than a single day or two days. World Surf League also has a longer weather window. A similar plan has likely been considered for Rampage. Who knows why something like that would not work. Outdoor sports are outdoor sports, and will always be unpredictable. But other organisers have learned to plan for the unexpected to the degree that it is possible.

What a huge bummer for riders and crews that spent so much time preparing.

Anyway, here’s Szymon Godziek throwing down an absolute heater of a run before Red Bull Rampage was  cancelled.

And here’s a full replay of everything that did happen in the men’s competition on Saturday.
