The year-end finals of the Chinese Tennis Association (CTA) tour will be held at the Macau Tennis Academy from 30 November to 6 December, for the sixth consecutive year, with support from SJM Resorts.

The tour is the country’s mass-participation tennis circuit, using a unified ranking system intended to connect grassroots and elite-level tennis, providing players with a pathway to progress through the competitive ranks.

Unlike previous editions, which began with a group stage followed by knockout rounds, this year’s tournament contested entirely on a knockout basis.

Organisers have also doubled the singles fields to 32 players in both the men’s and women’s elite divisions, a move expected to intensify competition and boost spectator interest.

The season got underway in Changzhou in May and toured cities across the country before reaching its finale in Macau.

This year’s field features the return of Wimbledon women’s doubles champion Guo Hanyu and Chinese standout Sun Fajing, both making appearance in the finale.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Leong Wai Man, president of the Sports Bureau, said: “The continuation of the event in Macau will further promote the development of tennis, advance the integration of ‘Sport + Tourism’, and contribute to the sustainable diversification of Macau’s economy.”

Daisy Ho Chiu Fung, managing director of SJM, highlighted the company’s continued support for national sports development.

“Beyond bringing a major sporting event to the city, we hope to give residents and visitors the opportunity to watch China’s top players up close and inspire younger generations to discover the appeal and opportunities of tennis,” she said.

An elite junior tennis training camp, the “Zheng Jie Cup”, will be held alongside the tournament, giving local young players the opportunity to train under national team coaches Zheng Jie and Zhang Yu while exchanging experiences with some of the country’s top junior talents.

The tournament will also feature a series of community and school outreach programmes, aimed at encouraging wider participation in the sport and supporting the long-term development of tennis in Macau.
