No, it won’t take you to the heart of an AI data centre.

It seems there’s something unnatural appearing on some SkyTrain maps.

On certain Mark V cars (the new ones), a “Synthetic” station shows up, catching the attention of several people over the last month who’ve posted to social media.

It’s always at the end of the line, announcing some last stop no one has ever heard of.

While some online have suggested it’s part of the Backrooms world, or an error in the matrix, or part of a sci-fi Harry Potter universe, others have suggested it’s a simple computer glitch.

According to TransLink, it’s the last folks who are correct, likely to the disappointment of some.

“The word ‘Synthetic’ appearing as a destination on some SkyTrain passenger information displays is the result of a minor software glitch affecting a small number of Mark V trains,” TransLink spokesperson Jawn Jang tells Vancouver Is Awesome.

The IT team are working on fixing it, but the bug persists, Jang adds.

Meanwhile, the social media team has had a little fun with it, sharing a video of what awaits at Synthetic Station.
