One lane on the Honoré-Mercier bridge Montreal bound was closed Tuesday night indefinitely.
The closure was due to a crack that was found on one of the bridge’s steel beams.
In a statement Transport Quebec said the crack was found on Tuesday during maintenance work.
“After inspecting the beam on Tuesday afternoon, it was determined that one of the two lanes (the left lane) would need to be closed for an indefinite period. Closing one lane reduces the load on the structure while additional analyses are conducted,” the statement reads.
Additional analysis will be conducted Wednesday.
Once the engineer teams determine what repair work is needed Transport Quebec will have a better idea of how long the lane will need to be closed.
The public is encouraged to check Québec 511 for updates regarding this closure and to plan their travel.
