A longstanding police golf tournament has delivered a $15,000 boost to Special Olympics Alberta, supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities and the sports programs that help them compete.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics recognized the Medicine Hat Police Service and Alberta Police Golf Association (APGA) for their fundraising efforts during the 92nd annual APGA Golf Tournament, held in Radium, B.C., in August.

The tournament brought together serving, retired and former police officers from across Alberta for an event combining friendly competition with charitable fundraising.

Tournament supports Special Olympics athletes

With Medicine Hat hosting the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games, the Alberta Police Golf Association selected the Alberta Law Enforcement Torch Run as its charity of choice.

The tournament raised $15,000 to support Special Olympics Alberta athletes and their sports programs.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a fundraising and awareness initiative supported by police officers and other law enforcement personnel. Its activities help provide opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities to participate in sports, training and competitions.

The donation will contribute to those opportunities for athletes throughout Alberta.
