Haas has confirmed Rafael Camara as one of its Formula 1 drivers for 2027, signing the 21-year-old Brazilian to a multi-year agreement.

The announcement turns a selection first reported last month into a completed deal and gives Camara the seat currently occupied by Esteban Ocon.

Camara has followed a rapid route through the junior categories since joining the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2022. He won the Formula Regional European Championship in 2024 and the Formula 3 title the following year, and now leads the 2026 Formula 2 championship by seven points.

His first Formula 2 season has so far produced three Feature Race victories and four further podium finishes.

Haas evaluated Camara in an August test at Portimao, where he drove the team’s 2025 car as part of its Testing of Previous Cars program. The team also assessed other candidates before settling on the Ferrari-supported driver.

β€œI’m very happy to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team as a Formula 1 driver,” Camara said. β€œIt’s an important step in my career and I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me.”

Camara’s promotion continues a remarkably efficient ascent: three championships in four seasons would be useful preparation for Formula 1, although the final Formula 2 title remains the next job on the list.
