A piece missing from Esquimalt’s big, blue sky is back where it belongs.
The BC SPCA Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (Wild ARC) said in a social media post Friday that an unhealthy eagle has been released in Esquimalt after receiving care in Metchosin and Vancouver.
“This beautiful, young eagle came into care thin and dehydrated,” Wild ARC explained. “It was very likely that she had been orphaned.”
After receiving a thorough assessment, blood work and supportive care at Metchosin-based Wild ARC, the eagle was transferred to Vancouver non-profit Orphaned Wildlife, where she continued building her strength and flight conditioning in flight pens.
“Thanks to the dedication of wildlife rehabilitators at both centres, this eagle made a remarkable recovery,” said Wild ARC. “Now she’s back where she belongs, soaring the skies of Esquimalt once again.”
The organization added that the eagle’s story serves as an example of how teamwork can help injured wildlife lead the lives they were meant to live.
“Every release is a reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together to help wildlife in need,” it said. “Thank you to everyone who played a part in this eagle’s journey from rescue to freedom.”
