Washington, Oct. 18 (SANA) Two people, including a six-year-old child, were killed and 11 others injured on Saturday when a truck driven by a woman drove onto a soccer field during a youth match in Wichita, Kansas, U.S. authorities said.

The Associated Press reported on Sunday, citing Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses, that the other person killed was a 35-year-old man.

The injured ranged in age from five to 68, Moses said. The 34-year-old driver was taken into custody as authorities investigated the circumstances of the incident and whether it was intentional.

Authorities said there was no further threat to the public. Wichita Mayor Lily Wu urged residents to stay away from the area while the investigation continued and expressed condolences to the victims’ families and support for those injured.

Wichita, the largest city in Kansas, is located in the south-central part of the state.

U.S. federal data show that road fatalities have declined following a sharp rise during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was partly attributed to reckless driving. About 36,640 people died in road crashes in 2025, down 6.7% from 39,254 fatalities in 2024.
